The art of search engine copywriting is not about stuffing as many keywords into a web page as possible, despite many small businesses believing otherwise.
Keyword density of over ten per cent can see websites penalised by search engines such as Google and Yahoo! and very rarely read naturally to visitors.
Although ensuring keywords are placed correctly is important, only expert copywriters have the skills to blend them well with creative and fresh content.
It is imperative that webpage copy can be read by search engine crawlers but it must also be compelling to human readers.
"Anyone can write copy for websites but in order for it to appeal to visitors and help your search engine ranking you need a professional," said Lucy Dawson, director of Bespoke News.
"You can also improve you chances of being indexed highly by adopting a regular news feed or blog which will encourage your visitors to come back."
